Pet Wellness & Preventative Care

We wish to assist you in caring for your pet. We hope you find value in your pet’s thorough examinations and check-ups because, like in any relationship, communication is key. The health of your pet depends on having regular physicals at Alexis Road Animal Hospital. To find any possible issues before they become serious issues, we provide complete physical examinations. Regular physical checkups help prevent many pet health issues, so we advise at least two checks with our experts each year. While physical examinations are important for animal health, you can contribute by taking good care of your pets. If you notice any irregularities with your pet, take detailed notes and bring him or her to our hospital for an examination.

What is a physical examination? Many times, though, you can learn a lot about your pet from straightforward observation. There are some things that you can’t see, feel, touch, or hear without thorough testing and equipment. Your veterinarian searches for any abnormalities during a physical examination. What is normal depends on both what is typical for the breed and what is typical of your particular, individual pet.

During physical exams, we will give more attention to the following areas of concern.

Vaccinations
Parasite Prevention

Vaccinations

Through regular pet immunizations, many diseases that might harm dogs and cats can be avoided. We will check your pet's vaccination status upon arrival at Alexis Road Animal Hospital and place them on a regimen to ensure ongoing compliance.

Our doctors will review the appropriate course of action for your pet's vaccination plan based on their age, medical history, lifestyle, and environment. For their initial round of vaccinations, you can bring your cat or dog in as early as six weeks.

After your pet receives the initial vaccinations, you will need to bring him or her back for boosters approximately every three months. Depending on the vaccine and your pet's lifestyle, booster shots will be given to your pet every one to three years after the original set of shots is complete.

Parasite Prevention

It's possible that you can't always detect if your pet has parasites. Fleas can conceal themselves under your pet's fur, and some ticks are so small they are just the size of a pinhead, making them incredibly elusive. Roundworms are an example of an intestinal parasite that can cause diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and other issues, although some infected pets don't even exhibit any sickness symptoms.

We can check your pet for signs of parasites like ticks, fleas, or other insects. Our knowledgeable staff can suggest drugs to treat intestinal parasites, heartworms, fleas, and ticks. Let's work together to safeguard your pets and family by preventing parasites in your pets, which also helps to protect kids and other family members.
